With eyes on the future and ears on the past, with a scent of tradition and a taste of contemporaneity, we set out for this edition of our Encontro Internacional de Marionetas de Montemor-o-Novo [International Puppets Festival of Montemor-o-Novo]. A meeting of people for people.

Twelve companies and collectives present to us 21 performances of puppets combining dance, body, objects, matter, music and visual arts, showing all of the puppets´transdisciplinarity with all its permanent mutation capabilities.

Having the Alentejo countryside and Montemor´s castle as a background landscape to welcome us with open arms, we see this landscape transforming itself into a scenery that dances, speaks, and sings.

It is in this ability to transform ourselves and others that we believe and that we see as essential to have a more inclusive, equalitarian and fair society, improving the way we relate to each other and to ourselves.

The relationship of several artists from around the world and from Portugal with Montemor-o-Novo and Alentejo, where time takes on another meaning, with a culture rich in symbols and in natural and architectural heritage, makes this festival unique for all who visit us and watch our programming. This symbiosis between the art and culture of a region merges in a unique and differentiated moment.

These companies and collectives from Belgium, France, Peru, Brazil and Portugal share with us their vision and approach to the performing arts.
As complementary activities, we will have two workshops for the school community, a masterclass for professionals or those interested in working with the body as a dramatic medium, a concert and an exhibition.

In this edition, we will have two extensions of our festival. One extension will be in Lisbon, at Teatro Ibérico, with the presentation of four performances, and the second extension will be in the parish of Santiago do Escoural with the presentation of a performance and a concert in Aldeia da Casa Branca.

― Amândio Anastácio, Artistic Director of Alma d’Arame

The activities take place at Cine-Teatro Curvo Semedo, at Sociedade Filarmónica Carlista, at Agrupamento de Escolas, at Mercado Municipal, at Alma d’Arame and at Parque Urbano.

We want to share this ENCONTRO with everyone: “Come on over and bring a friend.”

BONECOS DO MERCADO

ALMA D’ARAME – MONTEMOR-O-NOVO
